West Indies have added seam-bowling all-rounder Shamar Springer to their squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Bangladesh after Keemo Paul withdrew due to personal and family reasons, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced.
Springer, 28, has played three ODIs and 12 T20Is for the West Indies but is yet to make his debut in the longest format. He has scored 1,043 runs at an average of 32.59 and taken 58 wickets at 27.87 in 23 first-class matches.
The all-rounder impressed with the bat during the 2026 West Indies Championship, scoring 251 runs in four matches for Barbados at an average of 50.20. However, he claimed seven wickets across eight innings at an average of 42.00.
CWI said Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were also considered as possible replacements for Paul but were unavailable due to injuries.
The West Indies will also be without white-ball captain Shai Hope, who has been rested for the Bangladesh tour, and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who was withdrawn as part of workload management. Paul had initially been selected to replace Joseph.
Springer and Paul were both part of the West Indies’ recent white-ball tour of India. The visitors lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 before drawing the five-match T20I series 2-2, with the final match abandoned in Bengaluru.
The West Indies will begin their Bangladesh campaign with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24. The opening Test is scheduled in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, while the second match will take place in Sylhet from November 5 to 9.
The updated squad is led by Roston Chase, with Jomel Warrican as vice-captain. The team also includes Joshua Bishop, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales and Kevin Wickham, alongside Springer.
