A bomb threat discovered aboard an IndiGo flight from Phuket to Kolkata prompted an extensive security operation at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday, with passengers kept waiting on the tarmac for nearly two hours.
The Airbus A320neo, operating as flight 6E1494, landed at around 2.05 pm. Shortly afterwards, cabin crew found a threatening message written on the mirror inside the aircraft’s washroom.
Security personnel evacuated passengers and shifted them to an IndiGo bus while the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay for a detailed inspection. The search lasted more than two hours, and passengers were permitted to enter the terminal at approximately 4.30 pm after the checks were completed.
The latest scare comes just a day after another bomb threat was reported at Kolkata airport. On Friday morning, a handwritten warning on a piece of tissue paper was discovered inside a toilet, mentioning a bomb near a boarding gate.
The earlier incident also triggered a comprehensive search of the airport, although flight operations continued without disruption.
The two incidents within consecutive days have raised fresh concerns among security agencies. Unlike Friday’s scare, the latest threat was discovered inside an arriving aircraft.
Officials have not yet revealed whether further investigative action has been initiated or whether the person responsible for the message has been identified.
