Central Park In Delhi To Remain Shut For Two Days Ahead Of CJP Protest

New Delhi: Central Park in Connaught Place will remain closed to the public on October 16 and 17, following a decision by the New Delhi Municipal Council, which cited administrative reasons for the temporary shutdown.

The announcement comes ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s planned “Lehra do Tiranga” march at the venue.

CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke has called on supporters to gather at Central Park at 5 pm on Friday, carrying the national flag.

The march follows the arrest of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were remanded to five days of judicial custody over allegations of trespassing on private property while attempting to reach Jantar Mantar and violating bonds requiring them to maintain peace.

The CJP, along with opposition parties and other unions, is demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and a halt to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Dipke has also accused the government of attempting to influence election outcomes through alleged voter deletions. Questioning the removal of over 13 crore voters’ names, he asked whether it was a “setting”.

The party and student organisation leaders have also criticised the Centre over its handling of protests concerning the election commissioner and alleged irregularities in the voter roll revision.
