CJP Leader Accuses Modi, Shah Of Targeting Protesters To Protect Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi: CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of waging a “war against their own countrymen” to protect Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, questioning the detention of protesters and opposition leaders demanding the poll body chief’s resignation.

Addressing a press conference alongside Neha Bora and Prakash Raj, Dipke spoke a day after CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to judicial custody and sent to Tihar Jail.

Dipke alleged that young protesters were being dragged off the streets to shield Kumar, naming Neha, Ayesha, Vilaaj and Isha among those he said had been targeted.

He also claimed that opposition leaders, including Leader of the Opposition and former chief ministers Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal, had been detained while protesting.

Referring to an October 10 call for action, Dipke questioned claims of railway services being shut down and repeatedly asked whom the measures were intended to protect, asserting that they were aimed at saving Kumar.

Das, Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde were detained on Tuesday morning after allegedly crossing police barricades, entering Jantar Mantar and raising slogans demanding Kumar’s resignation.

The three were booked on charges including obstructing a public official from discharging their duties. A court remanded Das and Ranka to judicial custody, while Shinde was later released on a personal bond, according to CJP legal team head Ratna Singh in a post on X.
