New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been released from judicial custody after assuring the court that they will not call for protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remains de-notified under the law.
The assurance was submitted in an undertaking before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM), which ordered their release on Wednesday after accepting their sureties.
The two leaders also expressed confidence in the judicial process, stating they have “full faith in the judiciary and all its instruments including the learned SEM Court.”
The release came after their custody, initially set for five days, was extended by another two days on October 19. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ritu Raj, acting as the SEM, issued the release order.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 23, directing both leaders to appear with their sureties. Police have also been asked to submit a verification report.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court heard a petition filed by Das and Ranka challenging the extension of their custody until October 21. However, the leaders withdrew their plea after the High Court declined to entertain it.
