CJP Writes To Delhi Police After Jantar Mantar Denotified As Protest Site

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday submitted a letter to Delhi Police seeking permission to hold a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar, following the venue’s removal from the list of designated protest sites in the national capital.

The party has given authorities 24 hours to respond to its request, warning that it will announce a fresh date for a mass protest if permission is not granted.

In a representation addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police at Parliament Street police station, CJP activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka urged authorities to allocate a date for the demonstration and ease security restrictions across Delhi.

The letter alleged that heavy police deployment, barricades and road closures had disrupted daily life and led to arbitrary detentions of protesters and journalists.

The development comes after Delhi Police designated Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi as alternative venues for protests and demonstrations.

In its letter, the CJP said it was willing to organise the gathering on any date chosen by the authorities, addressing concerns over the requirement of advance notice.

The party asserted that peaceful assembly was a constitutionally protected right and said citizens, students and young people should be able to exercise their democratic rights.

It warned that if the police failed to respond within 24 hours and allocate Jantar Mantar for the protest, the group would continue its agitation peacefully and announce a new date for a mass demonstration.
