Daniil Medvedev has secured his 25th ATP Tour title after successfully defending his Almaty Open crown, marking the first time in his career that he has retained a tour-level trophy.
The Russian top seed defeated Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-3 in the final of the indoor hard-court tournament on Sunday. Medvedev recovered strongly after losing a closely contested opening set, dominating the second before taking control in the decider. He won the match in one hour and 53 minutes.
“It is just a matter of time, luck, a moment,” Medvedev said on successfully defending a title. “I was feeling fresh, physically good. Sascha (Bublik) being injured in the semis gave me an extra push in the final and I am happy to finally do it.”
The 30-year-old has now collected four titles in 2026, having also won tournaments in Brisbane, Dubai and Chengdu. Only Jannik Sinner, with six titles, has claimed more ATP Tour trophies this season.
His Almaty victory has also strengthened his chances of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. Medvedev currently sits fifth in the live standings with 2,670 points, holding a 790-point advantage over Alex de Minaur in 10th place.
Medvedev will next compete in Vienna as he aims to secure his place at the season-ending event.
