Delhi Metro Sets New Record With 82.44 Lakh Footfall Amid DTC Strike

New Delhi: Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever single-day passenger footfall on September 17, with 82,44,903 boardings amid the ongoing strike by private agency drivers working with the Delhi Transport Corporation.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said the record was reached as thousands of buses remained off the roads during the fourth day of the strike. The protesting drivers are seeking higher wages along with medical and social security benefits.

The surge in metro passengers prompted DMRC to strengthen services. On September 16, it increased train trips across its network and operated eight additional trains based on demand, particularly during peak hours. The enhanced arrangements were continued on September 17 to manage the increased passenger rush.

CISF official Santosh Chalke said the record reflected the joint efforts of CISF and DMRC to maintain security and facilitate smooth passenger movement across the National Capital Region.

The metro network currently spans around 416 kilometres with 303 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Corridor and Gurugram’s Rapid Metro line.
