The Delhi Police on Monday registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, party MLAs and other senior leaders following a complaint by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) over an alleged disruption at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib.
According to the complaint, protesters allegedly disturbed the sanctity of the religious premises during a demonstration and subsequently circulated selective and misleading video clips of the incident on social media.
Police said a case had been registered on the basis of the DSGMC’s complaint and an investigation was underway.
The authorities are examining video footage, CCTV recordings and social media posts to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved, including the alleged organisers of the protest.
Further details regarding the case are awaited.
Separately, the Citizens for Fraternity Forum (CFF), a civil society organisation, wrote to the Delhi Police on Monday, raising concerns over the alleged disruption near Gurdwara Bangla Sahib during the protest.
The forum urged the authorities to investigate the incident and make their findings and proposed corrective measures public.
The letter was also sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Harjit Singh Grewal.
The developments come amid demands for an investigation into the incident and accountability over the alleged conduct at the gurdwara.
