US President Donald Trump has shared a post criticising Navi Pillay after she was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to advance peace and international law.
The post, published on Trump’s Truth Social platform, accused the Nobel Committee of undermining the award by honouring Pillay and described her as hostile towards the United States and Israel. It also alleged that she supported Hamas and backed claims against Israel.
The post further praised Trump’s own efforts, citing the Abraham Accords, the return of hostages, attempts to end the Russia-Ukraine war and initiatives aimed at addressing Iran and rebuilding Gaza.
Pillay, an 85-year-old South African jurist of Indian Tamil origin, previously served as a judge at the International Criminal Court and as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Soon after receiving the honour, Pillay jokingly referred to Trump while addressing applause at an event. She said, “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump!”
The Nobel Committee announced the award in Oslo, with chair Jorgen Watne Frydnes presenting the decision.
