Washington DC: Billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has warned that a Democratic victory in the 2028 US presidential and congressional elections could fundamentally reshape America’s political system, claiming it could turn the country into a permanent one-party state.
In a post on X, Musk expressed concern over the possibility of Democrats securing control of the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate in 2028, describing such an outcome as potentially disastrous for the country.
“It would be game over for America,” Musk wrote.
Elaborating on his concerns, Musk alleged that Democrats could pursue a series of institutional changes if they secured a clean sweep in the elections. These, he claimed, would include granting statehood to Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico to strengthen their position in the Senate, legalising the status of undocumented immigrants and expanding the size of the Supreme Court to secure a majority.
“This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word,” he said.
My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will:
1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.
2. Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority.
3. Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority.
This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word.
All that is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.

Urging voters to support Republican candidates in the upcoming elections, Musk argued that securing 51 Republican seats in the Senate in 2029 would be sufficient to prevent the changes he outlined.
“That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one,” he added.
Musk’s Political Spending Crosses $442 Million
Musk’s remarks come as the billionaire has significantly stepped up his financial support for Republican candidates and political organisations ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections.
According to campaign finance disclosures, Musk has spent more than $442 million backing Republican campaigns and affiliated political groups, making him the largest individual political donor in US history.
The latest filings show that Musk contributed an additional $76.8 million to his America PAC over the past month, taking his total political spending for the midterm elections beyond $442 million, The Hill reported.
Established during the 2024 election cycle, America PAC received the latest contributions over approximately a week in October. The additional funding came on top of the $366 million Musk had already spent supporting Republican candidates and political groups.
A substantial share of his recent political contributions has been directed towards helping Republicans retain control of Congress, particularly in closely contested Senate races.
Major Donations To Back Republican Candidates
One of Musk’s biggest financial interventions has been in the Texas Senate race, where Republican candidate and state Attorney General Ken Paxton is facing Democratic challenger James Talarico.
According to campaign finance disclosures cited by CBS News, Musk contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the principal super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates, through two donations in September.
The contributions included $75 million on September 9 and another $83 million approximately two weeks later. The group subsequently transferred corresponding amounts to a Texas-based political action committee supporting Paxton.
The donations accounted for more than half of the Senate Leadership Fund’s total receipts during the third quarter, CBS News reported.
Musk also contributed $10 million to the pro-Paxton Lone Star Liberty PAC through his trust. His other contributions included $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a major super PAC backing House Republicans, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
His America PAC has also extended financial support to Republican candidates contesting competitive congressional seats.
The latest contributions signal Musk’s renewed involvement in large-scale political fundraising after spending more than $250 million supporting Donald Trump and other Republican candidates during the 2024 election cycle.
His increased political activity comes after concerns within Republican circles that he could scale back his involvement following his highly publicised fallout with Trump last year.
Democrats Lead In House Election Projections
Meanwhile, the November 3 midterm elections are emerging as a critical test of political control in Washington, with economic concerns and voter dissatisfaction posing challenges for Republicans.
A CBS News poll published on October 25 projected that Democrats could win 229 seats in the House of Representatives, potentially regaining control of the chamber.
The publication’s House model indicated that the Democratic majority could extend into the 230s, although Republicans still have a narrow path to retaining control.
The Democratic advantage has remained largely unchanged in recent weeks, with the report suggesting that there is currently no significant electoral wave favouring either party.
Concerns over inflation and the broader economy continue to influence voter sentiment, with many Americans expressing dissatisfaction with the financial situation while remaining unconvinced that either party has a convincing plan to address it.
Trump Says He Will Respect Midterm Results If Elections Are Fair
The political contest has also drawn attention to Trump’s remarks about the integrity of the upcoming elections.
On October 27, the US president said he would respect the midterm election results if the polls were conducted honestly, while indicating that he could use his veto powers if required.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “We’ll figure a way. I have a strong veto. I hope that won’t be the case, but if it is, that’s happened before… I will — if they’re honest elections.”
The elections come at a challenging time for the Trump administration, with economic pressures and declining approval ratings adding to the political uncertainty.
A Wall Street Journal poll published in September put Trump’s approval rating at 37%, marking a low for a president heading into midterm elections in the publication’s polling history dating back to 1990.
With control of both chambers of Congress at stake, the November 3 elections could have far-reaching consequences for Trump’s legislative agenda and the balance of political power in Washington.
