Facebook, Instagram Recover After Brief Outage in US

Meta’s Facebook and Instagram recovered on Sunday after a brief outage disrupted services for thousands of users across the United States.

The disruption began at around 8:55 pm ET, with outage reports peaking at more than 17,000 for Facebook and over 5,000 for Instagram, according to Downdetector, which tracks service disruptions through user-submitted reports.

Reports of problems dropped sharply by around 10 pm ET, indicating that both platforms had largely returned to normal. Meta had not immediately commented on the cause of the outage.

The exact number of affected users remained unclear because Downdetector’s figures are based on reports submitted by users and may not represent the total number experiencing disruptions.

Facebook and Instagram had also faced a similar outage in July. At that time, Downdetector recorded up to 4,808 reports for Facebook and 2,829 for Instagram.

The latest disruption was brief, with both platforms appearing to recover within roughly an hour of the outage reaching its peak.
