Federal Agents Search Ilhan Omar’s Washington Home In Immigration Fraud Probe

US federal agents searched the Washington, DC, home of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar early Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.

The US Justice Department confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a judicially authorised search warrant but did not disclose the full details of the case or identify Omar as its target in its public statement.

According to reports citing unnamed sources, the investigation concerns allegations of immigration fraud involving paperwork reportedly completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child. However, authorities have not publicly established the precise allegations or announced any charges. A search warrant does not itself establish wrongdoing.

Investigation Amid Political Dispute

Omar, a Somali-born US citizen who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has been a prominent critic of President Donald Trump, particularly over immigration enforcement and policies affecting Somali Americans.

She has previously dismissed allegations against her as politically motivated and said federal authorities had not contacted her about the investigation.

Trump has repeatedly criticised Omar and raised allegations concerning her immigration and marital history, which she has disputed. In a June opinion article in The Guardian, Omar accused him of using fraud allegations to fuel hostility towards her and the Somali American community.

Who Is Ilhan Omar?

First elected to the US House of Representatives in 2018, Omar is a prominent progressive Democrat and member of the group known as the Squad. Born in Somalia, she arrived in the United States as a refugee during childhood and later became a US citizen.

In September, she introduced the Make ICE Pay Act, which seeks to redirect funding allocated to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection towards communities affected by federal immigration operations.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges against Omar have been confirmed.
