Himachal Woman Arrested For Rs 20 Lakh Government Job Fraud

Hamirpur: A woman employed as a bank peon has been arrested in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district for allegedly duping jobseekers of around ₹20 lakh by promising them government employment. Police are investigating whether other individuals were involved in the alleged fraud.

The accused was arrested on October 24 and is being questioned in connection with a case registered at the Sadar Police Station in Hamirpur. Her identity has not been disclosed as the investigation continues, police said.

According to Hamirpur Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, the case initially surfaced after a young man approached the police with allegations of being cheated by the woman. Subsequently, several other individuals also filed complaints, alleging that they had paid money in the hope of securing government jobs.

Investigators said the accused, a resident of Hamirpur district, allegedly collected substantial sums from unemployed youths and their families after assuring them that she could arrange government appointments. She reportedly made similar promises to jobseekers in the Palampur and Rampur areas.

However, the promised jobs did not materialise. When the victims sought the return of their money, the woman allegedly delayed repayment despite repeated demands.

Police said the accused subsequently issued cheques to some victims as refunds, but the cheques bounced due to insufficient funds in her bank account.

The matter has also involved legal proceedings in multiple locations. According to police, courts in Rampur, Hamirpur and Jhanduta had issued non-bailable warrants against the accused.

Authorities are now examining the complaints and investigating the alleged collection of approximately ₹20 lakh. Police are also trying to establish whether the woman acted alone or had assistance from others in the suspected job fraud.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
