Imran Khan, Lekha Washington Among 400 Detained In Mumbai CJP Protest

Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan and his girlfriend Lekha Washington were among more than 400 people detained in Mumbai during protests supporting the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The detentions took place at August Kranti Maidan and other locations as police moved to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

Activists, Political Workers Detained

At least 200 protesters, including members of Tushar Gandhi-led organisation Hum Bharat Ke Log and CPI(M) supporters, were detained at August Kranti Maidan.

Gandhi was picked up from Bandra and taken to DN Nagar police station, where Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray later arrived.

Activist Feeroz Mithiborwala was also detained, while Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi workers were taken into custody near Hutatma Chowk. Police said the process of registering an FIR was underway.

Imran told ANI he was participating as a citizen concerned about restrictions on freedom of movement and people’s voices being suppressed. Zayn Marie, his cousin, later shared a video from inside a police van.

Protest Over Electoral Roll Irregularities

Protesters demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, alleging voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and irregularities involving Form 6, used for voter registration.

Police tightened security across Mumbai, including at Shivaji Park, citing a Bombay High Court order that does not designate August Kranti Maidan as a protest site.
