India Add Multiple Medals at Asian Para Games, Tally Reaches 47

Indian athletes continued their impressive campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games on Wednesday, adding several medals across para-powerlifting, athletics and field events to take the country’s overall tally to 47, including 12 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals.

Kasthuri Rajamani secured silver in the women’s up to 67 kg para-powerlifting event after recording a successful lift of 108 kg. She also lifted 103 kg but failed in her attempt at 106 kg. Uzbekistan’s Rukhshona Uktamova won gold with a best lift of 127 kg, while South Korea’s Kim Hyeonghui recorded 107 kg.

India also added a silver through Manjeet in the men’s javelin throw F13 event. He achieved a personal best of 61.03 metres to finish second, building on a strong season that included gold medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Delhi and the Indian Open Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru.

The Indian contingent recorded another podium sweep in the men’s shot put F46, with Sachin Khilari, Mohd Yasser and Praveen finishing first, second and third, respectively. Khilari secured gold with a Games-record throw of 15.87 metres on his final attempt, while Yasser took silver with 15.06 metres and Praveen claimed bronze with 14.94 metres.

The sweep followed India’s clean sweep in the men’s discus throw on Day 2, when Devender Kumar, Rakesh and Pardeep Kumar occupied all three podium positions. Devender won gold with 781 Raza points, followed by Rakesh with 771 points and Pardeep with 669 points. Although Pardeep recorded the longest throw of 51.15 metres, the final standings were determined by the Raza points system, which factors in athletes’ disability classifications.

Bhagyashri Jadhav contributed another silver in the women’s shot put F34, registering a personal-best effort of 8.19 metres. China’s Lijuan Zou claimed gold with a Games-record throw of 9.07 metres. The result marked Jadhav’s second consecutive silver medal in the event at the Asian Para Games.

India enjoyed further success in the men’s high jump T64, where Praveen Kumar won gold and Banti secured silver. Praveen cleared 2.05 metres to establish a new Asian Para Games record, while Banti achieved a personal best of 1.92 metres.

Praveen, a two-time Paralympic medallist, first cleared 1.95 metres to equal the existing Games record before crossing 2.00 metres on his first attempt. He then cleared 2.05 metres on his third attempt to secure the top position.

On the track, Rakeshbhai Bhatt won bronze in the men’s 100m T37 final with a personal-best time of 11.50 seconds. Saudi Arabia’s Ali Alnakhli claimed gold in 11.31 seconds, while Indonesia’s Saptoyogo Purnomo finished second in 11.35 seconds.

India’s growing medal haul across multiple disciplines underlined the country’s strong showing at the continental para-sporting event, with athletes delivering record-breaking performances and personal bests.
