India Condemns Drone Attack Near Mecca, Urges Early Restoration Of Peace

New Delhi:

India has condemned a reported drone attack near Mecca after Saudi Arabia accused Yemen-based Houthi rebels of sending a drone towards the holy city.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the incident was particularly concerning due to Mecca’s significance for Muslims around the world.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We are deeply concerned at the drone attack near Mecca,” while responding to media queries.

India also reiterated its opposition to attacks on Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory and any actions that could put civilian lives and infrastructure at risk.

The statement came amid rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, as the wider conflict in West Asia continues.

Jaiswal said India “reiterates its condemnation” of attacks on Saudi territory and actions that endanger civilians and infrastructure.

The Indian government also expressed hope that peace and stability would return to the region at the earliest.

The statement did not directly blame the Houthis for the incident. However, Saudi Arabia has accused the group of launching the drone towards Mecca.

Saudi authorities said the drone was intercepted by the Saudi air force around 6:50 PM on Tuesday, before entering the prohibited airspace around the city.
