India-EU FTA Opens Wider Opportunities for India-Poland Ties: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would create wider opportunities for economic cooperation between India and Poland, as the two countries seek to build on the momentum in their bilateral relations.

Addressing a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at Hyderabad House, Modi said India’s growing economic strength had opened new avenues for cooperation, with the trade agreement further expanding the scope for partnership.

The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during their meeting, marking another step towards strengthening bilateral engagement.

Welcoming Tusk to India, Modi recalled his visit to Poland in 2024, when the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership. He said bilateral ties had gained fresh momentum since then.

Emphasising the historical and cultural connections between the two nations, Modi said their friendship extended beyond formal diplomatic relations and was rooted in shared humanitarian values.

He cited the support provided by the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur during the Second World War, when they offered shelter in India to thousands of Polish children and families.

Modi said this legacy of empathy continued to form an important foundation for the relationship as India and Poland explore greater cooperation across economic and other sectors.
