Instagram is testing a new feature that will allow selected creators in the United States to upload videos lasting up to 90 minutes, as the platform looks to expand its long-form entertainment content.
Announced on Monday, the feature is designed for podcasters, comedians and other creators who produce extended videos. It will also allow creators to connect short Instagram Reels with their full-length videos, enabling viewers to continue watching content directly on the platform.
Instagram Vice President of Product Tessa Lyons explained that users will be able to move from a podcast clip to the complete video through linked Reels.
The feature has already undergone testing with creators in Brazil, and Instagram plans to extend the trial to tens of thousands of creators across the US. The longer videos will also be recommended through Instagram’s Explore page and other sections.
Among the creators participating in the initial US trial are podcast host Emma Grede, beauty and fashion influencer Monet McMichael, interviewer Preston Rakovsky and football content creator Donald De La Haye.
The feature will initially be available on mobile devices. Instagram also aims to bring this viewing experience to its television app as the company continues expanding its presence in digital entertainment.
