Thimphu: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Bhutan on Wednesday for a two-day official visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Jaishankar was received at Paro airport by Bhutanese Foreign Minister Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel. Welcoming his arrival, Jaishankar posted on X, “Kuzuzangpo la Bhutan!” and said he looked forward to engagements to advance the two countries’ longstanding friendship.

During the visit, Jaishankar will hold bilateral discussions with Foreign Minister Dhungyel.

He is also scheduled to receive a royal audience with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and call on Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit follows the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and is aimed at further strengthening close relations and cooperation.

India-Bhutan cooperation covers diplomatic, developmental and people-centric initiatives. Jaishankar’s visit is expected to provide an opportunity to review bilateral ties and discuss areas of continued cooperation.

The visit comes days after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Bhutan to strengthen institutional cooperation between the election commissions of the two countries.

Kumar also attended Bhutan’s National Voters’ Day event in Paro on Tuesday.
