Japan Braces For Typhoon Dujuan, Asian Games Face Weather Impact

Japan is preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Dujuan, with authorities warning of heavy rain, strong winds and landslides across several regions on Monday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the typhoon was moving northwest at around 20 kmph and was expected to pass near the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, from Monday evening into late Monday.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast for the Kanto-Koshin region in eastern Japan and the Tokai region in central Japan.

The JMA also warned that eastern and northeastern areas could receive intense showers, with a possible linear rainband developing over Shizuoka Prefecture and the Izu Islands.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games venue had not reported major adverse weather conditions, but organisers took precautions after the JMA forecast possible effects later in the day.

The equestrian eventing competition has therefore been postponed from Monday to Tuesday, September 22, with organisers monitoring weather conditions.

Typhoon Dujuan is Japan’s 25th typhoon of the year and has already caused disruptions to transport in affected areas.

The storm comes during a year marked by extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall, floods and tropical cyclones in several parts of the world.
