JD Vance Blames Immigration For France Riots, Warns US Of Similar Unrest

US Vice President JD Vance on Sunday blamed Western immigration and diversity policies for the violence during protests in France, warning that the unrest could serve as a lesson for the United States.

Sharing footage of a city hall engulfed in flames on X, he accused Western governments of neglecting assimilation and social compatibility.

“Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion,” Vance wrote, urging France to stop the violence before more landmarks were damaged.

He also warned Americans that congressional Democrats were seeking a future similar to France’s current situation.

France Protests Turn Violent

The unrest erupted during nationwide demonstrations over rising living costs, deteriorating public services and poor school conditions.

Around 550,000 people participated, according to France’s Interior Ministry, while the CGT union estimated turnout at 800,000. More than 1,200 people were arrested and 150 police officers injured.

Masked groups looted shops, torched vehicles and attacked public buildings across Paris, Limoges, Lyon, Marseille, Lille and other cities. A fire severely damaged Limoges’ historic town hall, while Lyon’s tourism office was also set ablaze.

While Vance attributed the unrest to immigration, protesters and French reporting have primarily highlighted economic hardship, school staffing shortages, inequality and declining public services. French authorities have not established immigration as the cause of the rioting.
