Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal matched a feat previously achieved by club great Lionel Messi after scoring twice in the Catalan side’s 4-2 victory over Levante in La Liga.
Yamal’s brace was his third in Barcelona’s opening five league matches of the 2026-27 season. He became only the second player in the 21st century to achieve the feat in La Liga, after Messi did so for Barcelona in 2013.
Barcelona made a flying start at the Ciutat de València, with Xavi Espart opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a low right-footed strike from the edge of the box, his first competitive goal for the club.
Yamal doubled the advantage in the 19th minute, finishing a move involving Fermín Lopez and Raphinha. He added his second from the penalty spot shortly after half-time after being brought down by Mandi, giving Barcelona a 3-0 lead.
Levante staged a late fightback as Iván Romero capitalised on a defensive error to score in the 79th minute, before Brugué reduced the deficit further in the 88th minute after converting a rebound.
Karim Adeyemi, however, settled the contest in stoppage time with a spectacular solo effort. The German forward carried the ball from the halfway line, beat Mandi with a backheel and finished calmly to secure Barcelona’s three points.
The victory extended Barcelona’s perfect start to the season to six consecutive competitive wins, matching the club’s best-ever start to a campaign. They remain top of the La Liga standings.
Raphinha also continued his impressive run, having been involved in nine goals after Barcelona’s first five league matches, with six goals and three assists. It was Barcelona’s best such tally since Messi recorded 10 goal involvements in the opening five games of the 2017-18 season.
Barcelona will next face Racing Santander at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday, with a victory potentially giving them seven wins from seven matches at the start of a season for the first time in club history.
