Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Sevilla to maintain their pursuit of La Liga leaders Barcelona, keeping the gap at six points ahead of their upcoming El Clasico encounter on October 25.
Real took the lead in the 30th minute through Arda Guler, who found the net with an impressive strike. Mbappe extended the advantage seven minutes later, rounding Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos before finishing calmly.
Sevilla attempted to fight back after the break, with Felix Correia coming close through a volley that deflected narrowly over the crossbar. However, Real strengthened their position when Mbappe converted a penalty after being brought down inside the box.
The France international’s double took his tally to 11 goals in 11 appearances across competitions this season, underlining his strong start to the campaign.
Sevilla managed to pull one back late in the match through Manu Bueno, who curled a shot into the bottom corner. Real responded with a powerful finish from Yan Diomande to secure the victory.
The three points provide a boost for Real ahead of their next La Liga fixture against Barcelona on October 25, with the high-profile El Clasico set to be a key contest in the title race.
