Messi Scores 100th Inter Miami Goal As Club Win Campeones Cup

Lionel Messi reached 100 goals for Inter Miami across all competitions as the Major League Soccer side defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 to win the Campeones Cup at Nu Stadium on Wednesday night.

Messi achieved the milestone in his 115th appearance for the club, making it the fastest he has reached 100 goals for any team. He previously took 188 matches to reach the mark for Barcelona and 174 appearances for Argentina.

The World Cup-winning forward opened the scoring in the 24th minute after meeting Luis Suarez’s precise cross from the right with a header.

Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has scored 76 goals in MLS, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup and one in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Casemiro added a second goal with a late header to secure the trophy for Miami and hand new head coach Cristian “Kily” González silverware in his first match in charge.

“Leo [Messi] told me I was going to become a champion, and he made it happen,” González said.

“Moving forward, this gives us a huge morale boost, it’s a vital element for us, and while we’ve achieved this, we have to keep going,” he added.

The Campeones Cup is an annual meeting between the reigning champions of MLS and Liga MX.
