Most-Wanted LeT Terrorist Killed in Budgam Encounter

Srinagar: A most-wanted terrorist affiliated with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday, security officials said.

Officials identified the slain terrorist as Sulaiman Shah alias Musa, while other reports have identified him as Hashim Moosa. The Army’s Chinar Corps has not officially released his identity.

Operation Korag
The joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF was launched in the Korag area of Yousmarg after specific intelligence inputs about a suspected militant movement.

Security forces said they detected suspicious activity and, after the suspects were challenged, came under fire, leading to a gunfight. Musa was killed in the remote Dudhpathri forest area.

Officials said Musa was wanted in connection with several attacks across Jammu and Kashmir and had escaped an earlier encounter in the Yousmarg hills on September 5, during which his close associate Yasir was killed.

Reports have also linked Hashim Moosa to the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed.

Jammu and Kashmir Police had announced a ₹20 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Moosa and other accused. The NIA had separately chargesheeted seven accused in the case, including Pakistan-based LeT/TRF.

The latest operation and searches in the surrounding forest areas were continuing, with security forces checking for any other militant presence and recovering weapons or other material.
