Nanded: A 24-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Nanded has been arrested for allegedly allowing cybercriminals to use his bank account to siphon off Rs 30 lakh from a Goregaon-based company in Mumbai.
The accused, identified as Kamlesh Navghare, was reportedly promised a 1.5 per cent commission for facilitating the transaction. However, the fraudsters allegedly transferred the entire amount to another account and abandoned him at a lodge in Delhi without paying him.
According to the North Cyber Police, Navghare came in contact with a Delhi-based operative in January 2026. In August, he was allegedly flown to Delhi and accommodated at a lodge near a railway station, where another gang member collected his mobile phone and used his bank account to receive the money.
The fraud took place on August 27, when a 37-year-old accountant working with a Goregaon West-based company received a WhatsApp message from a number impersonating his employer. Believing the communication to be genuine, he transferred Rs 30 lakh through RTGS from the company’s HDFC Bank account to an IndusInd Bank account.
The fraud came to light when the same number sought another large transfer. A subsequent verification with the company owner exposed the impersonation, following which a complaint was filed through the cybercrime helpline 1930.
Police traced the beneficiary account through KYC details and arrested Navghare, who is currently in judicial custody. Investigators said his chat history allegedly revealed links with multiple cyber fraud gangs and indicated that he had travelled to different states to provide bank accounts for commissions.
Police suspect a wider network of account-mule arrangements and are investigating further.
