One person was killed and eight others injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said.
The authority said the injuries ranged from minor to serious, and all those wounded were transported to hospitals for treatment. Officials are assessing the material damage caused at the airport. The statement did not specify the type of attack.
The incident comes amid repeated attacks on Saudi targets, with Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi forces suspected of launching projectiles towards the kingdom’s airports in recent days.
Earlier on Wednesday, two people were killed after Saudi air defences intercepted a drone targeting a facility at the Shaybah oilfield, the Energy Ministry said.
Last week, a projectile strike at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 11 killed one person and injured 11, according to Saudi authorities.
A separate attack on the same airport on October 10 reportedly killed 12 people and injured more than 300.
Amid escalating security concerns, the US State Department on Wednesday ordered some diplomats and their family members to leave its missions in Saudi Arabia.
The US Embassy in Riyadh also issued a security alert warning of possible further Houthi attacks.
