Two terrorists were killed in a joint counterterrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, security officials said Thursday.
Codenamed Operation Sohan, the operation began during the intervening night of Sept. 16 and 17 after intelligence inputs and reports of suspicious movement in the Brattal-Majalta area prompted security forces to launch a cordon-and-search operation.
The operation involved the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG). Contact was established with the terrorists after security forces tightened the cordon, leading to an exchange of fire.

Two terrorists were subsequently killed. Their identities and affiliations have yet to be officially established. Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition during subsequent searches, according to local reports.
The operation continued amid challenging terrain, poor visibility and adverse weather conditions. Reinforcements were deployed after the gunfight began, while troops conducted searches and aerial surveillance to detect any remaining threats.
The operation comes amid heightened counterterrorism activity in the Pir Panjal region.
Authorities have stepped up security measures, including vehicle checks and searches, across vulnerable areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri.
