Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday criticised the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Left groups and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing Opposition leaders of creating disorder in the name of demonstrations. She also commended the police amid the security crackdown across the national capital.
In a post on X, Gupta targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that they were attempting to turn Delhi into a “battleground” and disrupt public life following electoral defeats.

She said Delhi would not be “held hostage” to political protests and accused Kejriwal of disturbing the city’s peace and security for political interests.
Gupta also questioned the impact of the demonstrations on office-goers, daily-wage workers and patients travelling to hospitals.
She said residents should not have to bear the consequences of political ambitions and asserted that the government would resist what she described as attempts to spread anarchy under the guise of democracy.
The remarks came as police detained thousands of protesters attempting to reach Jantar Mantar for a demonstration demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CJP convener Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained at Delhi airport, while Kejriwal and several AAP leaders were also taken into custody.
Opposition leaders, meanwhile, accused the government of suppressing dissent.
