PM Modi Condoles Death Of Norway’s King Harald V, Recalls Oslo Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences following the death of Norway’s King Harald V at the age of 89.

Modi remembered his meeting with the Norwegian monarch during his visit to Oslo in May and spoke about the impression King Harald’s warmth and commitment to his country had left on him.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of the Kingdom of Norway. I fondly recall meeting His Majesty during my visit to Norway earlier this year and was deeply touched by his warmth and profound sense of service to his nation. My heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Norway,” PM Modi tweeted.

King Harald V, Europe’s oldest reigning monarch, died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital at 6:35 am local time on Friday, according to the Norwegian royal palace. He had been receiving treatment for haemolytic anaemia and was admitted to hospital on August 17.

During his hospitalisation, Crown Prince Haakon had taken over as regent. Following Harald’s death, Haakon has now succeeded his father as Norway’s king.
