PM Modi Congratulates Meloni On Becoming Italy’s Longest-Serving Post-War PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni after her government became the longest continuously serving administration in Italy’s post-war history.

In a post on X, Modi described the milestone as a reflection of the “trust and confidence” of the Italian people in Meloni’s leadership and highlighted her role in strengthening ties between the two countries.

“Congratulations to my friend Prime Minister Meloni on becoming the longest continuously serving Prime Minister in Italy’s postwar history. This milestone is a reflection of the trust and confidence of the Italian people in her leadership,” Modi said.

He also underlined Meloni’s contribution to strengthening the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership.

“Her friendship has also been instrumental in strengthening the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership, and I look forward to continuing our close cooperation to build a prosperous future for the people of our countries. My best wishes for her continued success in the years ahead,” he added.

Meloni’s government has crossed 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 uninterrupted days held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government from 2001 to 2005.

The milestone is notable in Italy, which has had 68 governments in the 80 years since the end of World War II, making political stability relatively uncommon.

Meloni took office in October 2022, becoming Italy’s first woman Prime Minister.
