‘Protests Achieve Nothing’: Amit Shah Says Congress Won’t Win Polls For 30 Years

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition over allegations of “vote chori”, saying protests and demonstrations would not help parties win elections.

He claimed Congress would remain out of power for 30 years because of its “negative politics”.

Speaking at an event in outer Delhi to launch and inaugurate 33 Delhi Jal Board projects worth ₹8,941 crore, Shah accused Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of using allegations of electoral irregularities and discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to challenge the people’s mandate.

Shah argued that opposition parties should focus on public welfare and governance rather than questioning the Election Commission whenever they lose.

He cited opposition victories in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana, noting that the same electronic voting machines and Election Commission were in place during those elections.

Turning to Delhi’s environmental issues, Shah blamed successive Congress and AAP governments for pollution in the Yamuna.

He said the Centre and the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were working on a three-year plan to clean the river, promising visible results by May 2029.

Shah also claimed that more than two crore tonnes of waste had been removed from Delhi’s landfill sites and said the areas would be converted into gardens within two years.

Targeting AAP’s government in Punjab, he accused it of failing to tackle drug abuse and predicted the NDA would form the government there by 2029.
