Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned a video showing the alleged harassment and molestation of two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui district, demanding that all those involved be identified and prosecuted under the POCSO Act.
In a post on X, Gandhi described the footage as “deeply disturbing” and questioned the safety of girls in public spaces. He alleged that the students were stopped on a road, harassed and molested by a group of men.
Gandhi called for swift legal action against those visible in the video and said, “Every individual in that video must be identified and prosecuted under POCSO, and justice must be swift.”
He also questioned the state administration over the alleged delay in arrests, asking why the accused were not behind bars if the incident took place on September 19.
Meanwhile, Bihar Police have launched an investigation after the video surfaced. Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Dayal said police identified one of the victims after receiving the footage and recorded her statement.
“A video went viral this morning, and we received it as well. Based on that video, we identified the victim and recorded her statement. It was revealed that the incident took place around 7 PM on the 19th,” Dayal said.
The SP said six to seven people were visible in the video and police had identified some of them. A search is underway to trace and apprehend those allegedly involved in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the footage and gathering further details about the incident.
