S Jaishankar Meets Uzbek Foreign Minister In Baku To Strengthen Bilateral Ties

India and Uzbekistan have discussed key bilateral matters during a meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov in Baku, Azerbaijan. Both sides highlighted the need to ensure that agreements reached by their top leadership are implemented effectively and on time.

Sharing details on X, Saidov said the discussions focused on important issues concerning relations between the two countries. Jaishankar also posted about the meeting, saying, “Nice to see Uzbek @FM_Saidov at Baku,” alongside a photograph with his Uzbek counterpart.

The meeting comes amid increased high-level engagement between India and Uzbekistan this year. In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uzbekistan, where the two countries elevated their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and established a target of achieving five billion dollars in bilateral trade.

During the visit, Modi was also awarded Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders, the Oliy Darajali Do’stlik Order.

Saidov reached Baku on Friday after travelling from Georgia, where he attended the first joint meeting involving the foreign ministers of Georgia and five Central Asian nations: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The latest meeting reflects continued diplomatic engagement, with both countries focusing on strengthening cooperation and ensuring progress on commitments made at the highest level.
