Sindhu Leads Indian Challenge at Hylo Open After French Open Final

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will spearhead India’s campaign at the Hylo Open 2026 in Germany, beginning Tuesday, as she looks to build on her runner-up finish at the French Open last week.

World No. 11 Sindhu, seeded second in the tournament, will enter the competition aiming to convert her recent strong performances into another title. She lost to South Korea’s reigning Olympic and world champion An Se-young in the French Open final.

Sindhu has enjoyed a productive season on the BWF World Tour, reaching the semi-finals of the Malaysia Open in January and the Australian Open in June before winning the Japan Open title in July. Her performance in France has further strengthened expectations ahead of the German tournament.

She will be joined in the women’s singles draw by several Indian shuttlers, including Ashmita Chaliha, Devika Sihag, Isharani Baruah, Aakarshi Kashyap, Anmol Kharb, Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda. Meghana Reddy Mareddy is also listed in the qualifying draw.

Ashmita arrives after a notable French Open campaign, where she defeated Japan’s three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the second round. She had earlier won the Korea Masters this year. Devika, meanwhile, faces a difficult opening-round test against Thailand’s top seed and world No. 8 Pornpawee Chochuwong.

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen will lead India’s challenge alongside HS Prannoy, Ayush Shetty, Kiran George and Tharun Mannepalli. S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian is set to compete in qualifying.

Sen, the 2019 Hylo Open champion, will be eager to regain consistency after a challenging season. He withdrew by walkover from his opening match in Paris last week and has suffered first-round exits in six of his previous seven BWF World Tour appearances this year.

India’s leading men’s doubles combination of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has withdrawn from the tournament following another early exit at the French Open. Arjun Reddy Pochana and Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu will represent India in men’s doubles, starting in the qualifying rounds.
