Tim Cook Shares Final Message As Apple CEO, John Ternus To Take Over

Tim Cook’s 15-year tenure as Apple’s chief executive officially comes to an end on August 31, 2026, with John Ternus set to take over as CEO from September 1.

In a farewell memo to Apple employees, Cook reflected on his years leading the company and credited his team for the achievements during his tenure. He described his colleagues as the most extraordinary group of people he had worked with and said he felt confident about handing over leadership to Ternus.

Cook also acknowledged that leaving a role he deeply loved would be difficult, but said he was at peace with the decision. Praising Ternus, he highlighted his understanding of developing products that can have a major global impact.

Cook will remain involved with Apple as executive chairman of the company’s board. He is also expected to continue handling Apple’s relationships with US President Donald Trump and the Chinese government.

Cook became CEO in August 2011, shortly before Steve Jobs’ death. Meanwhile, Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001, became senior vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2021 and has overseen work on major product lines including the iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Apple also held a farewell dinner for Cook at Apple Park last week, featuring tributes from executives and a performance by OneRepublic.
