Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced major progress toward a possible agreement to establish a US Army base in Poland.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump credited Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s leadership and said negotiations were moving forward. He wrote, “GREAT NEWS! Thanks to the bold leadership of my friend, Karol Nawrocki, President of Poland, major progress is being made toward establishing a U.S. Army base in Poland.”
Trump added that if the plan goes ahead, the location would be announced soon, describing it as a historic step for the US-Polish alliance.
The announcement comes as NATO members have been seeking to strengthen their eastern flank amid the ongoing Ukraine war. The United States is also exploring a shift of some of its forces in Europe toward the east.
Poland is described in the provided details as a strong US ally and currently has a conservative president, Karol Nawrocki.
Trump’s announcement indicates that discussions over establishing a permanent US military presence in Poland have moved forward, although the location has not yet been announced.
