Trump Cancels Livestream Of Nidal Hasan’s Execution, Confirms Firing Squad Plan

United States: US President Donald Trump has announced that the scheduled execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will not be livestreamed, reversing an earlier plan supported by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump described Hasan as “a very bad and evil man” and criticised the Obama administration over its handling of the 2009 shooting at the Texas military base, which killed 13 people and injured 32 others.

Trump had initially argued that broadcasting the execution could serve as a warning to terrorists. However, he acknowledged concerns about showing the death publicly, writing, “Many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die.”

Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3. Trump confirmed that the execution would proceed as planned, despite the decision against broadcasting it.

“He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed,” Trump said.

The president also stated that the immediate families of the victims would be allowed to witness the execution in person if they wished.

He emphasised that the families deserved to see justice served.

If carried out publicly, Hasan’s execution would mark the first public execution in the United States since 1936.
