The United States has advised its citizens in Saudi Arabia to follow emergency alerts issued by the Kingdom’s Civil Defence authorities amid the threat of missile and drone attacks linked to Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
The advisory comes as regional security concerns have raised the risk of airport disruptions, airspace closures and flight cancellations.
The US Embassy in Riyadh urged Americans to monitor official alerts sent to mobile phones, follow instructions from local authorities and check flight schedules directly with airlines and airports.
US government employees in Saudi Arabia also require special authorisation to use airports following recent attacks.
Travel and Safety Precautions
The US mission warned citizens to exercise extreme caution when travelling by air and consider road, train or bus services as alternatives where available.
It also cautioned that Saudi authorities prohibit filming or sharing images of missile and drone interceptions, impact sites and related security operations, with violations potentially leading to detention.
The advisory follows reports of attacks affecting airports and other infrastructure in the Kingdom.
Saudi authorities have also issued emergency alerts in areas facing potential threats, urging residents to follow safety instructions and avoid gathering near affected sites.
Americans have been advised to remain alert, monitor local media and enrol in the US State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and facilitate contact in an emergency.
