NM VERIFIED
NewsMobile verified the claim and found that it is misleading.
The NM team initiated its verification by examining the visuals and searching for the origin of the video. We found a post shared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Facebook on October 12, 2019, showing PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanging gifts during their second informal summit in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. The images in the post include the same porcelain memento featuring PM Modi’s portrait that appears in the viral video.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple media reports published in October 2019, including reports by WION and The Times of India, carrying the same visuals from the Modi-Xi meeting in Mamallapuram. The reports stated that PM Modi gifted Xi Jinping a handmade silk shawl, while Xi Jinping presented Modi with a porcelain memento featuring Modi’s portrait.
We also found a post shared by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarifying that the viral video is from 2019 and that the porcelain memento featuring PM Modi’s image was gifted to him by Xi Jinping during the Mamallapuram summit.

Hence, it is evident that the viral video is not from the 2026 BRICS Summit and does not show PM Narendra Modi presenting his portrait to Xi Jinping. The visuals are from the 2019 Modi-Xi informal summit in Mamallapuram, where Xi Jinping gifted Modi a porcelain memento featuring his portrait.
