NewsMobile investigated the viral post and found the claims to be false.
To investigate the viral claim, we conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the video. The search led us to a report published by Cebu Daily News on September 9, 2025, which featured visuals matching those seen in the viral clip.

According to the report, the incident occurred in Barangay Balogo, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, Philippines, on September 4, 2025. Two sisters returning home from school became trapped in the strong current of the Kanslakan River after heavy rainfall caused the river to suddenly swell.
The sisters were swept away by the current but managed to grab onto the roots of a tree. Local residents subsequently came to their aid and rescued them safely.
We also found a report by GMA Regional TV dated September 8, 2025, which corroborated these details. It stated that two female students returning from school in Barangay Balogo were caught in a flash flood. The girls managed to hold onto tree roots before locals rescued them from the raging waters.

Further corroboration came from a Must Share News report published on September 11, 2025. According to the report, the two students were swept away while crossing a river in Guihulngan. The video showed them holding onto each other as they struggled against the strong current. They eventually managed to grab onto a tree root and were rescued by local residents.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a mother and her only daughter being swept away and killed during the devastating floods in Nepal, is false.
