A graphic purportedly showing Bollywood actor Sunny Deol making a controversial statement against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is circulating on social media. The graphic claims that Deol said he was fortunate to have left the party, adding that otherwise, he too would have become a “mental Naxalite.” The post further alleges that most BJP leaders are “mental Naxalites.”

NM VERIFIED
NewsMobile verified the claim and found that it is misleading.
The NM team began its verification by running the viral graphic through a reverse image search but found no credible source confirming the claim. A subsequent Google keyword search also found no reliable media reports supporting the statement attributed to Sunny Deol.
During the investigation, we examined the social media accounts of Prajatantra TV, whose logo appears on the viral graphic. This led to a post shared on the channel’s official Facebook page on August 18, 2026. According to the post, Sunny Deol had spoken about his decision not to promote paan and gutkha in a podcast, stating, “My conscience does not allow me to promote paan and gutkha.” He also spoke about his experience after the release of Gadar 2, saying he felt as though God had come to him.
However, the post contained no statement resembling the remarks attributed to him in the viral graphic. We also checked Sunny Deol’s official social media accounts but found no evidence of him making the alleged comments against the BJP or its leaders.
The comparison image also highlights the difference between the original image and the viral graphic.

Hence, it is evident that the viral graphic falsely attributes a political statement to Sunny Deol. The claim that he called BJP leaders “mental Naxalites” is false.
