Xi Jinping To Pay State Visit To The US From September 23-25

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from Sept. 23-25 at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Xi would hold “in-depth exchanges of views” with Trump on major issues concerning China-US relations, as well as global peace and development.

The three-day visit will be Xi’s first state visit to the United States since September 2015, when he travelled to the country at the invitation of then-President Barack Obama. Xi subsequently met Trump during the latter’s first term in 2017 and visited the US again in 2023 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, where he met then-President Joe Biden.

The upcoming visit follows Trump’s state visit to China in May. Guo described the reciprocal visits by the two presidents within six months as having “historic, milestone significance.”

He said Beijing was prepared to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Washington, manage differences and work toward peace, stability and prosperity.

Trade and economic issues are expected to feature prominently in the talks. Senior US and Chinese officials have held discussions on economic and trade matters, including artificial intelligence, ahead of Xi’s visit. The two countries are also navigating a fragile trade truce set to expire in November.

The visit comes amid broader disagreements between the world’s two largest economies over trade, technology, security and Taiwan. Recent diplomatic contacts have focused on managing differences and maintaining high-level communication between Beijing and Washington.

Xi’s visit is expected to include official engagements in Washington, including meetings with Trump, as both sides seek to sustain dialogue on bilateral and international issues.
