Zelenskyy Urges Fresh Sanctions After Deadly Russian Drone Strike In Dnipro

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the European Union, the United States and the G7 nations to tighten sanctions against Russia after a drone strike hit a railway station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, reportedly killing at least 14 people and injuring 10 others.

According to Zelenskyy, the Russian drone struck a crowded platform where a local commuter train and a scheduled passenger train were stationed. Emergency teams were deployed to the site to assist the injured and respond to the aftermath.

In a statement shared on X, the Ukrainian president expressed condolences to the families of those killed and criticised Moscow for continuing attacks on civilians.

Zelenskyy also questioned the decision to ease certain sanctions targeting Russian oligarchs and the country’s energy sector, arguing that such measures had not led to a reduction in attacks.

He urged Western governments to introduce stricter economic measures against Moscow and its military operations, maintaining that sanctions should remain in place as long as the war continues.

The Ukrainian president further called for coordinated action by European and American partners to respond to what he described as an escalation in Russian attacks.

The reported strike adds to concerns over the safety of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, where railway networks remain important for passenger travel and transport during the ongoing conflict.
