Massive Landslide Hits Sikkim’s Mangan District, Rescue Teams Deployed

Mangan: A massive landslide struck Sikkim’s Mangan district on Sunday, triggering panic in the Himalayan state and disrupting connectivity in the affected region.

Authorities rushed rescue and disaster response teams to the site as officials assessed the extent of damage caused by the slide.

The landslide reportedly occurred after heavy rainfall in the area, which has experienced unstable weather conditions in recent days.

Local administration, police, and disaster management personnel launched operations to clear debris and restore road links. Initial reports indicated that transportation in parts of Mangan district was severely affected, with roads blocked and movement restricted.

Officials said efforts were underway to determine whether any people had been trapped or injured in the incident.

Residents living in vulnerable areas were advised to remain alert as authorities monitored the situation closely. The administration also warned of the possibility of further landslides if heavy rain continues.

Mangan district, located in north Sikkim, is prone to landslides during the monsoon season due to its mountainous terrain. The latest incident has once again highlighted the region’s vulnerability to weather-related disasters.

Disaster response agencies remain on high alert, while restoration work and damage assessment continue in the affected areas.
