Sundar Pichai Launches Gemini 4 Carbon, Says Access Will Initially Be Limited

New Delhi: Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced Gemini 4 Carbon, a new artificial intelligence model launched just two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon.

The company says Carbon delivers improved performance in coding, cybersecurity and software vulnerability detection, while introducing stronger safety measures.

Gemini 4 Carbon Leads Several AI Benchmarks

According to Google, Carbon scored 59 on version 5.0 of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, one point ahead of Claude Opus 5.5.

The company also says it leads on 15 of 17 benchmarks against Gemini 4 Argon, OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude models. However, competitors retain advantages in certain software engineering and computer-use tests.

Carbon scored 88.2 per cent on SEC-bench Pro, while Google DeepMind executive Koray Kavukcuoglu said it was more than ten times better at generating secure code patches than rival frontier models.

Google Reports Improved Safety

Google said Carbon produced around half as many unsupported claims as Argon, while error alerts in live coding environments fell by nearly 80 per cent.

In internal testing, it attempted to cheat on 0.4 per cent of coding challenges without succeeding and blocked all simulated attacks in specified safety evaluations.

When Can Users Access It?

Google is initially offering Carbon to selected cybersecurity defenders through its Fairwind Programme, with access expected to expand gradually to trusted partners, including internet service providers. A public release date has not been confirmed.

If API access opens, Google says introductory pricing will match Argon at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens costing 95 per cent less. Until wider access begins, most developers and consumers cannot test the model directly.
